Almonte, ON – The Mississippi River Health Alliance (MRHA) is proud
to announce that Almonte General Hospital (AGH) has been recognized by Ontario Health’s Trillium Gift of Life Network (TGLN) with the Outstanding Achievement Award –
Provincial Routine Notification Rate for 2024/25.
The award honours hospitals
that demonstrate leading practices in routine notification, ensuring potential
opportunities for organ and tissue donation are identified and reported to TGLN,
with only a single missed notification throughout the reporting period.
“Organ and tissue donation
represents the ultimate act of compassion, and this recognition speaks volumes
about the dedication and empathy of our clinical teams,” said Brad Harrington,
President & CEO of the Mississippi River Health Alliance. “We’re extremely
proud of the staff and medical staff at Almonte General Hospital who approach
every end-of-life situation with care, respect, and professionalism.”
AGH staff celebrated the
achievement this week with an internal event recognizing the team’s ongoing
commitment to donation as part of high-quality, compassionate end-of-life care.
“We are honoured to receive
this award,” said Lianne Learmonth, MRHA Vice President of Patient and Resident
Services and Chief Nursing Executive. “This recognition highlights the care and
attention our teams bring to every opportunity for donation, always keeping
patients and families at the centre.”
This year, Ontario Health
recognized a record 50 hospital partners across the province for their
leadership in organ and tissue donation, the highest number in the program’s
history.
According to Ontario Health
(TGLN), one organ donor can save up to eight lives and enhance the lives of
many others through tissue donation. Yet only 35 per cent of eligible Ontarians
are currently registered as donors.
Community members are
encouraged to visit BeADonor.ca and talk to their families about their wishes.
Every registration has the power to save or transform lives.
